2017 3rd Annual Paddling For a Cause...
DAV--Disabled American Veterans
Sept 2016...the 2nd Annual Paddling for a Cause was a huge success and raised over $6800 for the Cure Starts Now Foundation in Memory of Lauren Hill.
The 22 mile adventure drew 20 plus river wanderers mostly kayakers and a few cardboard boats drivers from the Tri-State area. Mother nature provided 15 knot head winds and periodic rain to add interest to the 7 hour journey . The Corps of Engineers allowed "locking through" at the Meldahl Dam to the lower river portion of the trip. Most Captains of these tiny vessels have never had the opportunity to experience locks on a typical voyage...with the BIG guys. The adventure was conceived by Tom Lemon and Rich Jetter, two middle aged cardboard boat racers and members of the volunteer corps that manage the Museum and run the Annual Cardboard Boat Regatta in New Richmond on the Ohio... New Richmond, Ohio, America's Cardboard Boat Racing Capital will celebrate the 24th Annual International Regatta in 2016....closing in on a 1/4 Century of Cardboard Boat Racing on the Ohio River. |
